I had been working on machine quilting the Blue Roses but found time to do some hand applique on the 1857 blocks. New blocks were released on Fri and I quickly prepped them so I would have some hand work in the days ahead.
I found my Karen K Buckley perfect circles in the bottom of a box of unused small rulers and gadgets. I will finally use them on the circles for several of the blocks but not today.
I have a brand new quilt to start and have a limited timeline. Still deciding on the pattern.
I am pulling all the fabrics in my extensive stash in the new colours. Hopefully I will not have to purchase any new ones but we shall see.
I completed these 2. They were kind of fun. I do not especially like the reproduction chrome yellows but did use this yellow Dear Jane 2 for that crown. Looks like either it has the pox or is covered in bugs.
Spring is here and so is a brand new snow cover on my growing green grass and crocuses. Well, that gives me more indoor time since I cannot rake pine tree debris from under the snow.
blessings,
Chris
Love to see your work here on 1857 ; it's such a fun project! :)
ReplyDeleteIt is a fun project. The blocks are quite small at 10 inches and so far simple patterns. However, I see some challenging ones in the future.
DeletePrepping - that's what keeps me from making progress on my applique blocks. Do you have a station all set up for prepping? Thanks for linking to WIPs Be Gone.
ReplyDeleteI have been moving the stuff aside on the glass topped table and doing the back basting prep for the 10 inch 1857 blocks. Because they are so small, it does not take so much room. Now the Ben Biggs blocks, I need just about the whole table and that may be the reason that I am so far behind and something about glue.
DeleteEvery time I see the 1857 blocks, I want to jump in and start them but I just don't know what colors I would like to use. Did you work on these at the Guernsey meeting on Saturday?
ReplyDeleteYes. I stitched on 2 of them and had intended to do up a couple more corner leaves but forgot to pack that colour of thread. I am just using left over fabrics and matching to the originals as much as possible so I don't have to do any creative thinking.
