February was an interesting month. I had set what I thought was a reasonable goal to layer and baste and begin machine quilting on 4-5 small quilts. And it was. I just did not get any of it done. The girls came home from school on the Friday morning of a long weekend and took over my space. So, I put my stuff away and have not pulled it out since. Instead, I worked on Lucy Boston's Patchwork of the Crosses. Aka Lucy. They went back to school 4 days later and we have had a week of house guests. So I puttered some more on Lucy.
Have I mentioned lately that I love fussy cutting?
Well, I do. I really do. This so satisfies my left-brain creativity with matching quadrants. My Sweetie says this looks to be my most creative project so far. I better not let him down.
I got one cross hand-stitched together. The rest is just on the design wall. I was so proud of my colour choices until I stood back a few feet and realized that the colour value made those medium fabrics a bit mussy. Oh well. I have another 55 chances to get it right. Assuming, that is, that I will make 56 blocks like the original.
I cut lots of background Kona Snow into 2 1/2 inch strips on the GO cutter.
So now I have both big tables covered in my Lucy stuff. My March OMG goal will be to confirm some of the options and stitch together a few more crosses. I will be whip stitching a few more hexies together for Slow Sunday Stitching.
So sorry to hear about Ken's mom, she will really be missed. Your Lucy blocks look lovely, this design is all about fussy cutting, happy stitching!
ReplyDeleteLucy is coming along very nicely. I'd say you are hooked.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for your loss. Hang on to those fond memories.
Oh, your Lucy Boston blocks look wonderful. The fussy cutting adds so much interest. Isn't it amazing what some small pieces of fabric can become?!

ReplyDeleteSo sorry to read of the passing of your mother-in-law. What a wonderful age she lived to. Your Lucy pretty is looking wonderful. Love all the fabrics you are playing with. Yes, fussy cutting is addictive and fun; though I must say the word "quadrant" never enters into my mind when I fussy cut or match little EPP pieces, but then I am mathematically challenged. =)
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for your loss. It is obvious that you are enjoying working on Lucy. Those hexies are beautiful. I love the fussy cutting.
ReplyDeleteDear Chris,
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing. It is difficult for a child to say goodbye to a parent, glad you had her for so very long. Hugs and prayers for you and your family. Lucy looks very well organized, as for the colours play as much as you want and fussy cut everything. Looking forward to seeing your bold and full of adventure blocks.
I’m sorry to hear of your loss. It sounds like it was a peaceful ending. You’ve really got stuck into your Lucy blocks. There are some clever effects showing with the fussy cutting. I know what you will be working on for the next Zoom get togethers.
ReplyDeleteSo very sorry for your loss. No matter how old, a mother is a difficult loss. Prayers for your family. I love your Lucy blocks and I agree with your husband that you are being very creative. Looks like you'll meet your March goal easily! Thanks for sharing on Wednesday Wait Loss.
ReplyDeleteThere are quite a lot of hexies here, I love how your table is totally covered ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm very sorry for your loss, and send you hugs.
Thank you for sharing your pretty work and linking up.
Belated condolences on your loss. That really was a grand age.
ReplyDeleteI so enjoyed seeing all your fussy cutting and these gorgeous blocks coming together. Yes, it is certainly very creative. It makes me want to join in on this project, but I'm still working on Tumbling blocks, EPP. Are you using your stash or a particular fabric line? Happy Slow Stitching Chris.
What an ambitious goal! It's going to be so beautiful. I don't think that block is too muddy. Certainly not as much distinction as in the other blocks, but you want some variety in values. I think?? I'm so sorry about your loss. ((HUGS))
ReplyDeleteLook at all those blocks! It's such an intricate pattern, to my eyes anyway. So sorry to read of the passing of you MIL, sending my condolences to you and your family.
