Impulsive Waiting

It is no secret that I am impulsive. And most of the time I do not mind waiting like when I sat for an hour the other day getting the oil changed in my car and the snow tires taken off. But when it comes to quilting, I don't know. I have been a good girl for the past few months and laid aside many things so I could focus on getting my doctorate done. And done it is!

Well, then I crashed. I had no motivation to do much of anything. Strawberries came on full blast a week earlier than last year and we were hulling the rejects, which we call kitchen berries. We bagged and froze dozens of big bags for winter enjoyment. We have had several employees out there picking from 6 AM until done for 2 weeks now.

But the impulsive waiting. We had to wait for our second Coivd Vaxx which we got earlier this week. Rumor had it that, if you had no reaction with the first jab, you may get one with the second. I had a sore arm and ran a fever and my energy level and mojo, which were pretty low anyway, dropped even lower for a few days.

So this brings me to the impulsive waiting. I bought a few quilt kits, on sale of course, in the past and came across one the other day and wondered why I was not starting to make it. Schoolwork of course. But I am done school. I have opened a file on a new book project and even written out the chapter titles and started an introduction. I plan to join the fun with Meadow Mist and the Macaron Mystery QAL which begins next week. I have fabrics but am waiting for the supply list before posting them. I hope what I have will be enough with the fat quarters and jelly roll which I purchased on sale back in Feb because they were pretty and on sale. I still need to choose some background that will be suitable. I have been waiting for that one since I discovered the link. Waiting. Impulsively.

So, in the meantime, I started making a to-do list. Well, more of a July Goals list. Completing the 50th Anniversary Quilt aka Ella is at the top of that list. But starting something new, that is on the list also, I have specific ideas for 2 or 3 or maybe even 4 new projects. Remember, I have been waiting. I'm not sure waiting and impulsive actually go together.

Every time I go down the grocery store aisle that has the foil baking pans, I am reminded that I plan to cut out all the pieces for one of those quilt kits. I bought some cake pans to organize the cut pieces into. I read about that somewhere. I thought it was a great idea. Remember, I am impulsive.

But dishes do not wash themselves. That is my job and I seldom actually complete the job each day. I am behind on the laundry. I thought washing all the winter barn coats would be a good idea but they are all piled up in the laundry room. And speaking of the laundry room, my new washing machine has danced and bang-banged its way across the floor so often, I finally moved it where the floor is not so crooked. And today, the morning temperatures dropped to an unusual 7C for the end of June. We had the air conditioners on the other day and today the furnace kicked in. Talk about Global Warming. Those dirty coats would have come in handy this morning.

I have moved most of my quilting stuff over to the Blue Room above the kitchen beside my new bedroom, beside the bathroom. I am a happy girl. But I still have to put away all the school paraphernalia and set up my new machine. Did I mention I bought a new BabyLock Jazz II with 12 inches of throat space for machine quilting? It was an impulsive purchase back in early March. It has been patiently waiting under the table for me to have time to set it up and try it out.

3030 Quilt Returns

What does Gay have up her sleeve at Sentimental Stitches?

She is offering the very popular 3030 Quilt again this year. I started mine a year ago and got a lot of blocks made. I think I will follow along and get the rest made so I can finish the thing.  I don't know who this top belongs to. I pulled it off the internet. This is what it will look like eventually.  It really is beautiful.

Macaroon Mystery QAL with Meadow Mist Designs

I have often read along with those crazy quilters who do the mystery quilts but never joined in because I tend to second guess myself on colour choices and I have often had the attitude of being "a bit busy". However, I completed a doctorate earlier this week and for now I am not that busy. Remember, it was an attitude not necessarily a reality.

Anyway, I saw the promo for this on someone's blog and decided to give it a go. Also, I happened to purchase a fat quarter bundle in the most delicious  Macaroon colors. I am looking forward to the first Thurs of July to get started.

Chris

And Just Like That . . .

I am done with my formal education. What started out as an impulsive taking one course at Bible college to see if I had what it takes to do college-level studies, turned into an exciting journey of learning and perseverance, frustration and perseverance, and fulfillment and perseverance. This was my part-time empty-nester hobby for about ten years.  A lot can happen in ten years. My kids grew up and left home. My parents both died and I became an orphan. We took over the family farm, survived menopause, got invited to see what God was doing in a remote area of India, and became grandparents.

Now if that wasn't exciting enough, for the next four years I went to graduate school and got a Masters in Theological Studies. I learned how to heal from anger, depression, and suicide, went to India 6 more times and learned how to preach.

Then I decided to go the distance and do a doctoral program in Christian Counseling. I published my first book and have 2 more half-written, and went to Africa and Australia and Poland and England and India a few more times and got three more grandkids.

Today I submitted the final two courses. Now, what am I going to do with the rest of my life?

I just realized that we have not been empty nesters for at least 4 years now.

Chris

June 2021 OMG Goal

The sky is the limit! I aim to make at least 10 pieced blocks for the 50th Anniversary Quilt aka Ella. My OMG goal will be to do just that and put them all up on the design wall to see where am at.

This is what it looked like the last time I had them all up back in March. The completed blocks and the not competed blocks that were prepped for applique.

Blessings,
Chris

May 2021 OMG Completion

I completed just this one block this month. I wanted to say so far but I doubt I will get any more blocks done this month. And why?

Because I have been doing schoolwork, like, every single day. I am so close. Linking up with OMG May finish up. See you next week.

Blessings,

Chris

May 2021 OMG Goal

My OMG goal for May was going to be to stitch for at least 15 minutes a day for the month of May. I thought that with any luck, I could have the rest of the Ella applique blocks done. But the reality is, if I intend to complete my doctorate by the end of the month, then I have to change my quilting goals mindset.

Instead, I will set the bar really low this month. The OMG goal will be to complete just one 50th Anniversary quilt aka Ella block.  Just one. Anyone. Will I stitch at least 15 minutes a day? I hope so. But I found that too much pressure this past month. So, one block it will be. I already have June goals dancing around in my head.

Blessings,
Chris
