I have taken the easy way for the past couple of months so for this month's one-monthly-goal I am challenging myself to really get some work done. The plan is to complete 31 blocks. Sort of like a:
Block-A-Day
for the Month of May.
I have quite a few blocks started that I can complete.
The Rainbow Scrap Challenge colour for May has not been posted yet, but I will be working on DJ2 aka Bright Jane.
I completed 7 blue for April and have 2 started. I lost one of the tiny blue triangles for another block and eventually found it in my sweater pocket.
There is the Corn and Beans.
I have only 20 blocks to go to complete the 100 planned.
And some of the Hand Piecing QAL. I stopped working on them because it hurt my hands.
I don't think I will have a problem finding 31 blocks to work on.
My sister is visiting from Pakistan while we self isolate. She is still teaching her students in Pakistan on Zoom at midnight. She is making a quilt while here.
.
Which brings me to the next project the girls are working on. The I-Spy quilts they started 2 years ago. They are both so much more proficient at the sewing machine now. Problem is, they both want to sew at the same time. But I only let them use the Bernina with the seam guide
When I became a Gramma I had not signed on to homeschool little girls, but that is sort of what I am doing these days. Two use laptops and the youngest one uses my desktop. It has a 23-inch touch screen. Some days we print off math sheets and I get to review how to count coins and add by 5s and 10s. Other days, we learn about dinosaurs and water or the difference between living and non-living things. There is a science experiment going on in the kitchen. Beans are sprouting in styrofoam cups and are being observed and measured daily. Must spend time in the Animal Shelter and Stuffy Daycare. And, the girls delight in making lunch for Grampa and take it to him in the field on the golf cart.
Good thing Auntie is here so they have their special 30 minutes of alone time with her each day. Among other things, eight-year-old Ellyse is learning to colour hair and goes on walks with her so they both track their steps with their Fitbits. Devan, who turns 7 next week, is working on an engineering project. Not only is she the engineer, but she is the architect. There are cardboard boxes and glue guns and nature scavenger hunts to collect supplies.
And what does Gramma do at this time?
Nap of course.
Blessings,
Gramma Chris

when I read your sister is keeping up with students in Pakistan at midnight I just thought how hard that must be and they are so lucky to have her like that. Love all the projects you are working on. I would think it is hard to help the kids with school on the computer and they are lucky to have you help them out. Sounds like you have a house full right now
ReplyDeleteThat is a lot of good goals while juggling all the extra schoolwork with the girls. Glad your sister is there to give you a bit of a break.
ReplyDeleteThose blocks are looking good! I like the nap idea too!
ReplyDeleteOh, goodness! A visitor AND young girls to home school? Yes, I would imagine that nap time is a requirement!! LOL
ReplyDeleteI don't have grandkids here and I still nap lol - great block idea in May
ReplyDeleteYour bright blue DJ blocks remind me of my DJ. How long until school is out of session?
ReplyDeleteOh my you must be exhausted after all that excitement with the grandkids. Thank goodness you've got your quilting to balance out life. Your blocks are beautiful and the DJ2 is going to be lovely!
ReplyDeleteYou have some great projects going, and what excitement helping your grandkids homeschool. I have been isolated from mine for two months now it seems!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed seeing the different projects you're working on! The block a day for the month of May will be productive. Loved hearing about teaching your grandkids, too. I was teacher in my working career, and have spent a lot of time imagining how this all must be for kids, parents, and teachers. (And now grandparents, too!)
ReplyDeleteIt sounds to me like Grandma Chris is very very busy indeed! You have got a good mix of blocks to make and school work to guide. I am lucky my littles are not in school yet.
ReplyDeleteDoes your Bright Jane have other colors in it? I guess my Dear Jane quilt could be considered "bright". It is basted and on the "to quilt" list for this year.
ENjoy sewing all of your many many blocks this month!
OH my goodness that is quite the challenge with the guests and the teaching!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure the children are loving every single minute of this and will look back on this time with much love and gratitude!
Wow you have been busy. Glad your sister has joined in too. Thank you for linking up to Put your foot down.
ReplyDeleteI can relate. My granddaughter has been living with us for seven weeks. Her dad too as my DIL is a nurse. She is young so not homeschooling though. I love your rainbow scrap challenge blocks!
ReplyDeleteHow fun! Thanks for linking up with Elm Street Quilts One Monthly Goal and good luck with your project.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your May OMG. You definitely have some fun projects to chose from. I've felt for many of the parents I know on dealing with home schooling. It's not an easy task. Our is in college, so we don't do much of that (though I'm designated paper editor).
ReplyDeleteI love your blue blocks. Good luck with the girls, and homeschool!
