I like a challenge and patchworktimes has a ufo challenge for 2018. You choose 12 unfinished projects to work on for the year. I suppose it is similar to pomegranate and chintz 17-ufos-in-2017 except they will tell you which number on the list to work on each month. (I was a bit hasty making this list and plan to revise it slightly)
- Serendipity (I might work on some Bright Jane blocks each month like I did in 2017)
BOM from Sentimental Stitches 2012.
The plan is to do the RSC each month to complete the remaining blocks then assemble it to flimsy status. - 1857 Album Quilt
Another BOM from Sentimental Stitches 2016-17.
I have 12 blocks to complete then I want to assemble it and machine quilt it. - Ben Biggs Wedding Quilt
Yet another BOM from Sentimental Stitches. There seems to be a pattern here.
I will be happy to get a few more of the 25 blocks made. This one is machine appliqued. - 150 Canadian Women (I plan to move this one to the 6 & 6 New quilts list since I only have 10 of 150 blocks made and started it in 2017 so it really is more a work in progress than a ufo. I will give Ben Biggs a second month since there is so much more work to be done in it.)
- Bally Hall Birds (This is another I am moving to the 6 & 6 list since I have yet to put in a stitch because I just started it. I will work on my Morrell Sampler here instead.)
- Disappearing 9-Patch
Made this several years ago. Just needs a border and I can practice some rule work with my machine quilting. - Disappearing 4-Patch
- Shades of Pemberly
Lots of 70 degree triangles to connect then machine quilt this one started more than 10 years ago. - Biblical Blocks 2
Started this one in 2004. Most of the hard work is done except removing all the freezer papers behind the applique. - Biblical Blocks 2 (I am taking 2 months with this one because I really want to complete it including machine quilting.)
- 1718 Coverlet.
Started 2015 and made about 16 blocks. - Birdy Wreath (Another that I am moving to the 6 & 6 New list. I started it at a retreat in Nov. I guess I will put Beyond the Cherry Trees here. The plan will be to complete the last 7 of 25 eighteen inch hand applique blocks.)
This will be the center block of something in the future. Started it at the Shipshewana Retreat.
Wish me luck. It will be a surprise each month which number is picked. I will do a blog post at the end of each month to show my progress.
Blessings,
Chris
We can do this! WE can have 12 UFOs done in 2018. I wish us both luck in accomplishing them. It will feel good. Mine are at https://melsquiltingblog.blogspot.com/2017/12/2018-ufo-challenge.html
ReplyDeleteHi Chris....that looks like an impressive list. good luck with that. Judy gives you a number to work on each month, also. i've been doing her challenges for several years. always fun. good luck
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteGoing to be great watching your progress...many of your UFO’s are really close to being completed - that has to be a good feeling! Love your 150th Anniversary Canadian fabrics...I finished a quilt top this year using Canadian fabrics from the Vancouver Olympics. Got the wreath done on our Birdy Quilt...working on the bird now...Happy stitching to you!!
ReplyDeleteChris, you have some really pretty projects - Biblical Blocks is amazing! I enjoyed your review of 2017, too. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Chris I think we all need motivation like this with a group now and then. This year I did UFOsin2017 with Meridithe down here in OZ and we chose 17 UFO's and every 3 weeks we would work on another one, the idea was not to finish them but to get back to working on them and it motivated you to work on them and in may cases even complete the quilts!!!!!! Each month we would share what we had achieved , several of the girls actually finished all theirs. I didn't but I sure plowered through several quilt WIP's from 15 to 20 years ago and throughly enjoyed doing them. Hope you hae a lovely time over the estival season Chris and all the very very best for 2018 family and quilting wise. Cheers Glenda
ReplyDeletePS Meant to say ALL those WIPs are all stunning and are going to make incrediable quilts one day looking forward to seeing them all as quilts LOL
ReplyDeleteyou have some wonderful projects to look forward to making
ReplyDeleteWell, that is a wonderful list with so many beautiful projects. I love love love Biblical Blocks 2. I just love quilts that have borders to frame each section!
ReplyDeleteYou are going to be so happy to get all those UFOs finished!
ReplyDeleteI wish you great luck in completing them. They are wonderful projects. I have UFOs but some will get finished and some not. I am so much better at starting projects than finishing them. There's something about starting a new project; the call of the fabric, the challenge, the cutting (I love to cut), the arranging and rearranging even if only on paper, keeps me forever in UFOs.
ReplyDeleteDear Chris, you are brave, allowing someone to choose which project you will work on. I am looking forward to seeing which ones get chosen. Merry Christmas, it takes good Faith to follow.
ReplyDeleteI like the IDEA of the UFO Challenge, but I don't think I would like having someone else dictate what I'm working on. Each time I walk into my studio, I have different amounts of time available, different levels of energy and frustration tolerance. Since I'm a brand new longarm owner, the loading and quilting phases are slow and deliberate and I need lots of time, patience, and motivation to get into it. When I have less time, I'm feeling frazzled, and I'm looking for respite in the sewing room, I'll do something with a mindless, easy rhythm, like my paper pieced pineapple log cabin blocks. I need to come up with some kind of personal UFO challenge that would hold me accountable, but allow flexibility to choose projects that match my creative energy on each day. I am also madly smitten with your Serendipity quilt, by the way -- I'm looking forward to seeing that one finished, so I hope its number comes up first! :-)
